Valeda Light Delivery System
Southern Eye Institute
Board-Certified Ophthalmologists & Board Certified Optometrist located in Houma, LA & Thibodaux, LA
If you've been diagnosed with dry age-related macular degeneration (dry AMD), the Valeda Light Delivery System offers a groundbreaking, FDA-authorized option to help protect and even improve your vision.
What is dry AMD?
Dry AMD is an eye condition that affects the macula — the part of your eye responsible for sharp, central vision used for reading, driving, and recognizing faces. Over time, it can cause blurry or faded vision.
How does Valeda work?
Valeda uses gentle, painless pulses of light directed at the back of your eye. This light therapy energizes and revitalizes the cells in your retina, helping them function better much like how sunlight helps plants grow. There are no needles, no eye drops, and no surgery involved.
What can I expect?
Treatment sessions are quick and comfortable, typically lasting about 15 minutes. Most patients complete 9 sessions over 3–5 weeks, with follow-up treatments every 4 months. You can return to your normal activities right away — there’s no downtime.
Who is it for?
Valeda is designed for patients with early to intermediate dry AMD. A brief evaluation with our team will determine if you’re a good candidate.
